The idea for art projects with kids arose when a survey showed that kids in Elementary School in Holland from 8 years on up no longer have much fantasy. That seemed such a waste!! Kids-Art-Park was invented to get kids accustomed tot art and artists and especially to put them back on track with their fantasy. Build Your Own World, Air Castles made of Bricks and Wate are titles of parts of a Kids-Art-Park program that tickle the imagination. The limited world of drawing on an A4 and coloring within the lines, is traded for endless possibilities and some serious craziness. It starts with one of the three rules that govern Kids-Art-Park: EVERYTHING IS ALLOWED! The artists are the kids assistants and help to execute their ideas. But that is only allowed when a child asks. There is also a technical staff that hands out the tools and explains how a tool works, if they’re asked to explain. Parents are not admitted on the playground during the program. Parents will often give well-intended help and ideas, say how something should be done. We try to let kids think of this themselves, say nothing unless something is dangerous. If they have to think a while, that’s perfectly fine. If they want to do something completely different, then the staff tries make it fit in the program. One major requirement for a KAP is that there is a lot of space and that messiness is allowed. And a whole lot of materials to experiment with and to shape to big ideas with. The more the better! Kids-Art-Park has had 23 editions (up until 2019) Two of which took place in Vietnam on the invitation of the Medisch Comité Nederland-Vietnam.
